In a world of tough economic times, drastic measures are needed. That’s why the Honda Motor Company decided it was time for “fresh leadership” to lead the automaker through the turmoil of a weak market.
The automaker’s senior managing director, Takanobu Ito, has been named the seventh president and CEO of Honda. The current person in charge – Takeo Fukui – will stay on the board as an adviser. He has been in the top position at the company since June 2003. And even though he has received the credit for keeping Honda profitable during these tough economic times, the automaker felt it would be a good idea for a new person to lead the company into the next stage. The changes are slated to take place following the yearly shareholders meeting in June.
The change isn’t coming with hard feelings, though. Fukui decided he was too “old school” for the challenges that today’s auto market presents to Honda. He is graciously stepping aside for 55-year-old Ito.
With stories like these, you can see that Honda is dedicated to withstanding the challenges and troubles.
