You may think that car buyers have a good idea about what they want when they begin searching for a car. However, that assumption would be wrong. In fact, most car buyers are impressionable, indecisive and open to a number of options when it comes time to replace their current automobiles.
One report released online by Autotrader.com showed that about 60 percent of car buyers chose the “Search All” option on the website rather than just the “Used” or “New” options. This indicates that they are open to either type of vehicle that meets their list of criteria.
What is even more surprising than that is that more than 35 percent of used car buyers went to the lot looking for a new car but had decided to purchase a certified used one instead because of the quality and value. According to Joe Lescota, the Automotive Marketing Chair at Northwood University, the certified used programs have given a “new car confidence to used car purchases.” Because of this, many car buyers are having a “change of heart” and deciding to go with the better value in the certified vehicle.
