Can you imagine going more than a thousand miles on one tank of gas in your Toyota cars? That’s exactly what Rick Kearney, a Toyota Hybrid-Certified Master Diagnostic Technician is planning to do.
His 1,100 mile trip is going to stretch from North Palm Beach, Florida to Washington, D.C. The car, which is owned by Earl Stewart Toyota, is known as the Electric Green Machine. Kearney left Florida on Monday and plans to arrive in the nation’s capital next Thursday. Before leaving, the car’s gas tank was sealed with a tamper-proof cover so there is no chance of him cheating during the trip. When he gets to his destination, officials will check and verify that the fuel tank has not been opened, proving that Kearney made the trip on just one tank of fuel.
Normally, plug-in hybrids are not ideal for long trip. However, Kearney wants to prove that they are great for shorter commutes of about 40-50 miles. Since they are plug-in hybrids, drivers can worry less about the rising gas prices that seem to never end.
