One of the most popular and recognized Toyota cars – the Highlander – recently began production in Princeton, Indiana, at the plant where the Tundra trucks were once produced. The production marks another move by Toyota to consolidate its United States manufacturing plants in an effort to save money and be more economical.
The workers and officials celebrated the production launch earlier this month with celebrations on the floor and a reception in the afternoon for leaders in the community. Toyota also spent about $500 million to retool and equip the plant for the new line of production after moving the Tundra production to San Antonio, Texas.
In all, the Indiana complex employs about 4,200 workers after buying out 400 of them during the retooling process.
The Toyota Highlander sold more than 600,000 units this year through September. With its base price of less than $26,000 and its practicality that you can only find in an SUV, it has become one of the most popular Toyota cars on the market today. It also includes Toyota’s latest Star Safety System with Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS and Electronic Brake Distribution for added safety on rough and unpredictable terrain. It’s the perfect car for you and your family whether you like to travel or stay close to home. Check one out today!
