If you are looking for something to do in Philadelphia during the Halloween season, the Dracula Festival is a great exhibit to visit in your Toyota cars.
The unique and macabre festival, which takes place at the Rosenbach Museum and Library, features a number of exhibits inspired by Bram Stoker’s iconic Dracula. Dracula festivals in the past have included exhibits like “The Making of a Monster” and a lecture entitled “The Life and Creativity of Bram Stoker.” There was also a parade complete with howling wolves, swooping bats and other macabre items throughout Rittenhouse Square.
The Rosenbach Museum and Library is one of the most elegant townhomes in the area. It houses a massive collection of manuscripts, rare books and literature from America’s history and beyond. Some pieces include Lewis Carroll’s copy of Alice in Wonderland, James Joyce’s handwritten draft of Ulysses and an early letter written by George Washington. In all, there are more than 130,000 manuscripts along with 30,000 rare books as well as hundreds of miniature portraits and other collections of art.
The Philadelphia Dracula Festival runs from October 1 through October 31. For more information, call the Rosenbach Museum and Library at (215) 732-1600.
